Coming fresh off another great sports its time for another Vincent's View point. Sunday was a good day for Texas football fans. The Houston Texans played a hard fought game and came out on top of the Houston Oile....errr I mean the Tennessee Titans. The Texans have won four in a row now and have a really good chance at finishing the season above 500. Dont be suprised if by next year they will be in AFC wild card hunt as long as everybody stays healthy. Meanwhile the Drama prone Dallas Cowboys came away with a much needed win against the New York Giants on Sunday night. Tony Romo got beat up pretty bad by the Giants defense but, the Cowboys defense did a wonderful job. It was funny how NBC interviewed Whiten,Owens, and Romo after the game. It's funny how everybody is all smiles and seem to like each other after a win isnt it? The Cowboys close out Texas Stadium on Saturday night while the Texans head to the west coast to face the Raiders.
I had the chance to check out the YMBL Basketball Tourney on Fridady and Saturday with fellow setxsports broadcaster Mike Sanchez. Ozen fell to Aldine in the championship game on Saturday but it was a great weekend for basketball. After the championship game at the Montagne Center on Saturday we stuck around for the Lamar game against Texas Tech. I was really impressed by the crowd and by the way the Cardinals played. No doubt that is the biggest win of the season so far for Coach Rock and his team. Now the question is will the crowds keep showing up to the games like they did on Saturday? I surely hope so because this a really good Cardinal team and they have a chance at a special season. So get your butts out to the Montange this season and support your local college team. Even if your a Longhorn,Aggie,LSU Tiger or whatever else I think you have a responsbility as a fan to go out and support your local college where you live.
Congrats to Coach Alverez and the Kirbyville Wildcats on a sensational season. The Cats' fell to Muleshoe on Saturday night in the 2A State Championship game. Im sure it may sting right now for the kids, coaches, and communities losing the game but Kirbyville has nothing to hang their heads about. The Dayton Broncos will be playing in the Class 4-A, Division II, State Championship against Sulphur Springs on Saturday at 2PM in the Alamodome. Good luck to the Broncos. Ive been kind of hard on them lately because I have never considered them a local team but I understand its hard for them to get coverage down here and Houston because they are in no man's land. Good luck to them and bring back a State Championship! Thats the Viewpoint for this Monday. Everybody feel free to leave comments if you want to. Have a great Monday everybody!

Random Thoughts......
As predicted on friday Florida and Oklahoma will square off in the BCS National Championship Game on Janurary 8 in Miami Florida. Im really not suprised this happened and there is no doubt that these are the best two teams in the nation as of right now. There is still a need for a playoff but you know and I know that will never happen anytime soon. Coming up later this week I will make my bowl predictions for every single bowl game out there. Yes every single bowl game from potatoe chips, helicopters, and fruit. The Major League Baseball General Managers meeting is underway in Las Vegas. Im really curious to see what Houston Astros GM Ed Wade can pull off here. The pitching rotation still needs help for sure. The word going around is they are trying to find a backup for Miguel Tejada. Speaking of shortstops Adam Everrett (former Astros SS) signed a one year deal with the Detroit Tigers yesterday. I miss his defense but not his bat. Keeping things short and sweet today I want to encourage all of your guys to go and check out the hottest sportscaster thread in the college football forum. I think you would find it very ummm interesting.

Championship Saturday
Friday is finally here and I know we are all execpting it with wide open arms! Yes it has been a long week and the holidays are here so its time just to sit back and watch some football. Of course the two games everybody will be keeping their eye's on will be Florida Vs. Alabama in the SEC Championship game and Oklahoma Vs. Mazzou in the BIG 12 Championship game. The way things are shaping out it looks like the winner of the SEC game will face Oklahoma (if the Sooners win the BIG 12) and or maybe just a slight chance the Longhorns will backdoor their way in if the Sooners are upset. Saturday should be a great day for games so just sit back and enjoy. Oh by the way basketball is in full swing just in case you havent figured that out by now. Lamar lost big to Kentucky the other night and will stay in the Bluegrass State over the weekend for the Marques Maybin Classic in Louisville. Also, their are alot of good high school basketball tournaments happening around southeasttexas. Nederland,Beaumont Central, and Evadale all are hosting teams. The annual YMBL Tournament is set for next week at the Montange Center in Beaumont.
As I mentioned earlier in the week we have some local schools still in the hunt for football state championships. Kirbyville and Newton are both in the 2A semifinals in their respective divisions. Beaumont Central are in the quarterfinals facing a really good Friendswood team Saturday night at the Woodlands. Good luck to our remaining area teams this weekend. You can listen to Kirbyville and Newton on www.setxsports.com, and the Central game can be heard on www.tsrnsports.com.
Ok I have my three picks for the weekend so here we go:
SEC Championship Game: Florida-35 Alabama-21
Big 12 Championship Game: Oklahoma-52 Mazzou-30
Cowboys Vs. Steelers (Sunday)- Dallas-21 Steelers-17
Everybody have a great, safe, and warm weekend.

Head of the Tribe?
Well I'm sticking to the high school level on this viewpoint. Before I express myself on this situation I want to mention one thing. I am a proud graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School. Ive been in Mid-County all of my life and do not plan leaving anytime soon because I love it here. I grew up just like so many other generations did in Port Neches and Groves going to PN-G football games and bleeding purple. As my duties for setxsports.com have grown in the past 3 years Ive learned that their is alot of other great football programs in southeasttexas I have been covering and have enjoyed doing so. As I write this viewpoint I just want to throw out there that I am not being biased towards the Port Neches-Groves Football Program but, I do have my opinion about the coaching situation that is going on over there right now. It is no secret that this one of the most prestigious programs not only in this area but in the state of Texas. Matt Burnett had a great 15 year run as the head coach at the reservation. I am not surprised at all about the decision of the reassignment given to him recently. I do think it was time for a change. When things are not going well the natives do get restless and I know the purple and white faithful is ready to get the PN-G program back to the top. Their has been rumors going around about who the new head of the tribe might be. Mike Long from Kelly High School (former PN-G offensive coordinator), Alvin Credeur (Current Lumberton Head Coach and former assistant at PN-G) have been the two hot names mention to take over. If I had to pick between those two great coaches I would choose Long because, it is a high profile job and he would have a chance to be really successful has a head coach. I am not taking anything away from Kelly High School or its football program I have nothing but respect for that school but, if you had a chance to take a better job making more money and a name for yourself wouldn't you take it? As far as Coach Credeur is concerned I do not see him leaving Lumberton. He is a native son of the city and has done a outstanding job turning that program around. Their is a possibility that they might hire someone out of the area. Personally I think that might be the best bet for the Indians right now. Bringing in someone that's not from southeasttexas will be a breath of fresh air for this program. Whoever that might be they need to run a spread offense and a up tempo style of play. This should be an exciting time at the Reservation with a new stadium and a new era starting. When I still do get a chance to get to see the Indians play these days I still get chills when the team runs out onto the field and the band fires up the fight song. I just want all of the PN-G faithful to know that their is still hope for this program and it wont take long for it to get back to the top. Last but, not least I want to wish the Lamar Cardinals luck as they face the Kentucky Wildcats tonight. Feel free to leave comments and opinions.

Texans and other thoughts....
Lets just say I was impressed "somewhat" with the Houston Texans and their debut on Monday Night Football last night. I thought the energy at Reliant and the fans were just awesome. I wasnt too impressed with the playing calling from time to time but, what should you expect with a offensive coordinator who's only 28 years old? Slaton is a very impressive running back who looks like is going to have a bright future with the Texans. Lets just hope he stays healthy...anybody remember Dominick Davis???? Andre Johnson and Mario Williams had a chance to show off to the rest of the nation last night that they are superstars as well. It was a good game to watch "if you were a Texans fan" and only the second Monday Night game this season I actually watched from start to finish.
Last night I had a chance to listen to Lamar Head Basketball Coach Steve Roccaforte's radio show for a little bit. I tuned into it at the right time because Coach Roccaforte was talking about how the Texas Tech Red Raiders will be coming into the Montange Center on December 13. The coach really wants that arena packed when Pat Knight brings his Red Raiders to Beaumont. He made the point that the players deserve to have at least 10,000 people packed in the Montagne come December 13. I couldnt agree with him more and he convinced me to be out their and cheer on a really good Cardinal ball club. The Cards are 5-0 and head to Kentucky starting tomorrow to face the Kentucky Wildcats then to Louisville for the Marques Maybin Classic this weekend to face Ohio, Indiana State, and Louisville. Once again feel free to leave comments or thoughts. Next post will be dedicated to the folks at www.setxsports.com that has had some interesting opinons on the next Head Coach at Port Neches-Groves High School.

Monday Night Football and BCS.....
Well as predicted yesterday morning Oklahoma jumped Texas in the BCS standings to represent the Big 12 South in the confrence championship game this Saturday. I know all the burnt orange fans are going to be wearing Mazzou shirts hoping the Tigers will pull the upset off. All I have to say to my Longhorn friends is good luck. I know the Texas fans are frustrated right now but, they need to realize that they need to be frustrated with the Big 12 commish on how they handled the decision in the tie-breaker situation. I will post my predictions for the confrence championship games later this week.
If you dont know by now the Houston Texans are hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars tonight at Reliant Stadium for Monday Night Football. This is the first time in 15 years MNF will be in Houston. The game does not shape up to be a pretty one looking at it on paper. That should not give you any reason not to tune in and check it out. I believe Reliant Stadium will be rocking, and there is no doubt that Jacksonville is the Texans biggest rival. I predict the Texans will win this one in between 7 and 10 points in a magical night in Houston.
Finally, the Beaumont Central Jaguars will be playing in the 4A Divison I quaterfinals this Saturday night in the Woodlands. They will be facing a very good Friendswood team who's QB is commited to play college ball at Texas Tech. I have the great honor in doing play by play with my broadcast partner Corey Berg this weekend. So if you cant make it out to the game then tune in to us starting at 5:45 only on http://www.setxsports.com/. Like I said before feel free to leave comments and opinions.
